Generic Estrace (Estradiol) 2Mg & 1Mg

Generic Estrace contains active ingredient named as Estradiol in it. Estradiol is basically estrogen hormone which is a female sex hormone. It is released by the ovaries and is responsible to carry out different functions in the body. The release of estrogen is controlled by Follicle stimulating hormone of pituitary and this cycle works by the negative feedback mechanism. The drug, estradiol, is required in conditions when the amount of estrogen is reduced in the body or for the replacement of hormone in the body.

 

The drug is available is tablet form of 1g and 2g. Usually, 1 mg is used three times a day but the dose is adjusted according to the condition of the patient and it can be increased gradually. It should always be started in lower dosage and patients should undergo blood tests to know its levels in the serum. It is also present in cream form for external use.

 

Generic Estrace is used in several conditions to regulate the amount of estrogen in the body. It is used to control the symptoms of menopause in females including hot flushes, aggression, bone pain, sweating, vaginal irritation, and dryness. In a condition known as osteoporosis, the drug is used to prevent it as well as to cure it as it may be caused by estrogen deficiency. It is used in certain carcinomas as well like breast cancer as a part of hormonal therapy. Estrace is also helpful to replace estrogen in females with ovarian failure.

 

The drug should not be used in the patient of liver disease as the drug is metabolized in the liver. Also if the patient is pregnant, estradiol is contraindicated.

Other conditions in which the drug should not be used include bleeding disorder, clotting disorder, and hypertension, history of stroke or cardiac ischemia. Also if there is a history or family history of any cancer like endometrial cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer etc. the drug should not be used.

 

It may cause the following side effects

• Allergic reactions including shortness of breath, swelling of lips and tongue, chest tightness, hives etc

• Chest pain

• Jaw pain radiating to left arm

• Numbness

• Headache

• Nausea

• Sweating

• Slurred speech

• Problem with vision

• Sudden loss of balance

• Sudden cough

• Stomach pain

• Nausea

• Vomiting

• Tachypnea

• Tachycardia

• Palpitations

• Lung pain

• Severe leg pain

• Sudden cough

• Wheezing

• Pain in the breasts

• Lump in breast

• Swelling on legs

• Jaundice

• Uncontrolled abnormal vaginal bleeding

• Fluid retention

• Weight gain

• Vaginal irritation and discharge

• Irregular menstruation

• Bloating of stomach

• Thinning of hair

 

If you are planning a pregnancy tell your doctor before. Also if you are a lactating mother you should let your doctor know as the drug passes in to the milk.

In conditions like hypertension and hypertriglyceridemia, it is used with precautions. Also if the patient is having impaired liver function or history of liver disease, it is used cautiously. Other conditions in which Estrace should be used carefully include Epilepsy, migraine, asthma, cardiac dysfunction, hypocalcemia and renal dysfunction.

Long term usage of the drug can exacerbate the formation of ovarian carcinoma, breast carcinoma, vaginal carcinoma, endometriosis, diabetes, and SLE.
