Generic Maxalt (Rizatriptan)
Product information
used for the treatment of acute migraine in adults and patients aged 6- 17 years . A doctor may recommend a starting dose of 5Mg & 10Mg. Each tablet typically contains lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose and magnesium stearate as the inactive ingredients.
Maxalt should be used when needed, that is, when you notic e symptoms of migraine.  There are therefore no rules on daily dosage. Once prescribed however,  dosage should be strictly followed because overdose may make the headaches severe.
Where the headache returns, one may redoes but the dosage should not exceed 30mg in adults taken in 24 hours. Most importantly, the redose should not be taken before the lapse of two hours from the first dose. The effectiveness of the second dose is however minimal
As a migraine treatment, the drug works by narrowing the brain’s blood vessels. Patients weighing less that 40kg should take the 5MG dose and patients weighing 40kg or more should take the 10mg dose.  The dosage relieves of severe migraine symptoms within 24 hours in adults.   Although an adult patient should take the 10mg dose, the dosage should be reduced to the 5mg dose where the patient is on Propranolol medication.
Notably the drug is only effective where the headache has already begun. It cannot therefore be used to prevent a migraine attach or a headache.
