Description
Itraconazole is a drug that is used to treat fungal infections. This medication is very effective among HIV/AIDS patients. It can also be used for other purposes not listed here. However, before you start using it, ensure you seek medical advice to avoid increasing the risk of side effects.
Dosage
This dose is administered based on your response to treatment, medical condition and other drugs you may be using. Before you start taking Itraconazole, ensure you read the Prescription Label carefully. If you are not understanding the instructions, seek help from your doctor or pharmacist. This medication is taken by mouth with or without food. Your doctor may recommend that you take Itraconazole with a full meal. Ensure you stick to these instructions. Take this medicine once or twice a daily the same time every day.
Usage
This drug comes in form of capsules. Avoid chewing, crushing or even breaking it. Make sure you swallow it whole. Take this medication exactly as directed by your doctor. You are required to take Itraconazole for one week until treatment is complete. Do not change, reduce or increase the dose by yourself. Consult your doctor if you feel the urge to do so. Take the drug until the dose is completed. If you have a lot of stomach acid, take the medication with any cola drink to reduce the acid. Also, take the drug at least two hours before taking any antacids.
Side Effects
Some of the possible side effects of using Itraconazole are: dizziness, diarrhea, nausea, headache and stomach upset. This medication can also cause serious side effects such as: hearing loss, irregular heartbeat, depression, reduced sex drive, hair loss, enlarged breasts, swelling feet, sore throat, fever, joint pain and frequent urination. If you encounter this, inform your doctor immediately.
