Description

Generic Cipro

Cipro tablets contain an antimicrobial agent called ciprofloxacin. They are coated double layered tablets with one layer that is for set for immediate release. The tablets are white or slightly yellowish in colour. This drug is used to cure and manage Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infections and complicated Urinary Tract Infections and Acute Uncomplicated Pyelonephritis.

 

Dosage

Cipro is available in coated immediate release tablets of 500 Mg.

Usage

Cipro tablets should be taken whole and not split; it should be taken two hours after the administration of any other drugs you may be taking. Ensure that you are well hydrated when taking these tablets to avoid having very highly saturated urinal discharge. For peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis patients they should only administer Cipro after dialysis and use a least 500 mg a day.

Side Effects

The side effects of Cipro include;

General effects

  • dizzy spells  

  • nausea, vomiting;

  • Insomnia drowsiness

  • blurred vision;

  • Anxiety

 

Adverse effects

  • Damage to the Central Nervous System

  • May cause Peripheral Neuropathy 

  • Serious Adverse Reactions if taken with Concomitant Theophylline

  • Diarrhoea Associated Clostridium difficile

  • Hypersensitivity Reactions Prolongation of the QT Interval  

  • Tendon Rupture and Tenditits

  • May cause the exacerbation of Myasthenia Gravis 

  • Hepatotoxicity

  • Prolongation of the QT Interval

  • Development of Drug Resistant Bacteria

  • Disorders of the Musculoskeletal in people with Pediatric disorders.

  • Photosensitivity

Precautions

To get the best results out of your prescription and to avoid any possible side effects related with Cipro you should take precautions. Some of these precautions include;

  • Informing your doctor of any pre existing conditions especially allergies, Long QT syndrome, heart disorders, irregular breathing, kidney disease, diabetes, liver disease, joint ailments, seizures, head injuries and tumours among other conditions.

  • Stop taking Ciprofloxacin tablets immediately in case of adverse effects such as tearing of tendons and contact your physician without delay.
