Generic Macrobid (Nitrofurantoin)
Product Information:
Macrobid is an antibacterial medication used to treat urine infections or what is commonly referred to as urinary tract infection. 
 
Dosage:
Macrobid should only be taken in its prescribed dosage; it should not be overdosed or underdosed and the dose should be taken for as long as it was prescribed to be taken by a specialist. This medication should be taken with food. The dosage standard form ranges from 50mg macrocrystals to 100mg macrocrystals. It is usually taken orally once or 4 times a day for 1 week in respect to the infection prescribed to cure.
 
Usage:
Macrobid is mainly used to treat urinary tract infections such as cystitis.
 
Side Effects:
Usage of this medication may lead to undesired side effects. In such circumstances it is advisable for the patient to consult a specialist. Known side effects of Macrobid include;
Allergic reactions to the drug.
Bloody or watery diarrhea
Fever and chills
Tiredness and body aches
Labored breathing
Numbness, painful limbs, muscle aches
Chest pain 
Vomiting
Jaundice
Vaginal itching and discharge
Headache
Dizziness
Stomach upsets
Blurred vision, eye pain
Blindness
Clay colored stool
Ulcers in the mouth
Swollen glands
Depression
Loss of appetite
 
Precautions:
Patients with a history of allergy reactions, jaundice, kidney diseases, anemia or low vitamin B or folic acid concentration, peripheral neuropathy, diabetes or breathing problems should inform their doctor before this medication is prescribed.
Additionally, in situations where the patient is on other medications the doctor should be informed of it.
During pregnancy and nursing, Macrobid should only be used if prescribed by the doctor to reduce risks of birth defects of fetuses that are associated with such an exposure and on infants respectively.
