Atenolol + Chlorthalidone

Chlorthalidone is a drug that is used to prevent the body from consuming too much salt that can cause fluid retention. This drug belongs to the Beta-blockers class of drugs. It works by affecting the heart and the movement of blood through the veins and arteries. When combined with Atenolol, this medication can be used to treat high blood pressure. It is important to have a low blood pressure to avoid heart attack or stroke. Chlorthalidone and Atenolol may also be used to treat health problems not listed here. 

 

Take this drug as directed by your doctor. Do not increase or reduce the dose than recommended.  When using this drug, you may be required to schedule checkups with your doctor to determine your blood pressure and blood tests from time to time. Use this medication regularly to get the best of it. It is advisable that you drink plenty of water when using Atenolol. This is because heavy sweating, diarrhea and vomiting may lead to dehydration. Hence you may develop kidney failure and low blood pressure. 

 

Do not stop using this medication even when you feel well. This may increase the risk of side effects hence your condition may worsen. Remember high blood pressure has no symptoms hence you might be required to take this medication your entire life. Restrain from too much physical activity while using this drug. Store Atenolol in a cool, dry place away from moisture, heat and light.  Call your doctor at once if you experience overdose symptoms such as: fainting, slow heartbeats, trouble breathing and rapid weight gain. 

 

Seek immediate medical care if you experience: trouble breathing, swelling of the tongue, lips and face, nausea, jaundice, cold feeling in your hands and feet, confusion, increased urination, seizures, fainting, drowsiness and dry mouth. 

 

Before taking Chlorthalidone or Atenolol, inform your doctor if:

• You are allergic to sulfa drugs such as Septra and Sulfatrim

• You have heart problems

• You experience difficulty urinating

• You have asthma

• You have liver  or kidney disease

• You suffer from diabetes

• You are pregnant
