Description

Product Information

Generic Combivent contains a combination of generic substances Albuterol (beta agonist) and Ipratropium (anticholinergic agent). Both components are bronchodilators and are used in the treatment of asthma and COPD.

Dosage

Usage and dosing of the medication should be recommended by your physician. This drug comes in the form of aerosol for inhalation. Usual recommended dosage is 2 inhalations 4 times a day, but never exceeding 12 inhalations a day.

How To use Generic Combivent

Generic Combivent comes with detailed instructions how to use the inhaler. Before every use, shake vigorously to ensure maximal effect. While inhaling, make sure you close your eyes since Generic Combivent components may provoke visual problems and glaucoma. Take deep breaths. If two inhalations are used in the same treatment session, wait at least 2 minutes between inhalations. Always discard the canister after 200 inhalations even if it may seem that there is more drug left in it.

Side effects

As every other drug, Generic Combivent may have side effects. Those include the side effects of both the components: tremor, headache, palpitations, tachycardia, hypertension, heartburn, dry mouth, cough, dizziness and nausea. Allergic reaction is possible to both components.

Warnings

People with benign prostatic hyperplasia and glaucoma have to be cautious when taking this drug since the symptoms of those diseases may worsen. The use of other anticholinergic drugs (e.g. atropine) may aggravate the symptoms. Since Generic Combivent may cause hypokalemia, the use of loop diuretics such as Furosemide (Lasix) should be carefully reconsidered.
