Generic Prilosec (Omeprazole)

Product Information:

Omeprazole is a drug that is used to treat GERD(gatstroesophageal reflux disease). This medication works by reducing the levels of acids produced in the stomach.  It is also used to treat too much stomach acid. Omeprazole heals damaged esophagus  brought about by stomach acid. When combined with antibiotics, Omeprazole also treats gastric ulcers.

Dosage:

The dosage varies from one patient to another. In adults who are experiencing gastric ulcers, they should take 40mg of the dose orally before a meal in a duration of four to eight weeks. The adult dose for Zollinger-Ellison is 60mg taken orally once in a day. When administering larger doses such as those greater than 80mg, the doctor should divide them as well. Individuals suffering from erosive esophagitis are given a dose of 20mg every day before a meal. This may be increased to about 40mg a day. This medication can be taken for two weeks but individuals are urged to resume the dose after four months.

Usage:

Avoid chewing, crushing or breaking the pill. Swallow the whole pill therefore. When using the powder form, dissolve a tiny amount in water. You can use one teaspoon of water for a 2.5mg pack. Allow the mixture to stand for about three minutes and proceed to stir it.  You can drink it later on. Doctors have also advised that individuals can also open the capsule and spray the powder onto a spoonful of applesauce. This makes  swallowing easier. Remember to store the drug at room temperature.

Side Effects:

Make sure you get immediate medical care if you experience these side effects. These include: swelling of the tongue, face, lips and face, rashes, hives, seizures, stomach pain, dizziness, weight gain and headache. 

Precautions:

Before you use this drug, inform your doctor if:

You have liver or kidney disease

You are allergic to Omeprazole

You have less magnesium levels in your blood

You are undergoing chest problems

You have a heartburn that has lasted for more than three months

You have stomach pain
