Generic Prandin (Repaglinide)

Product Information:

Repaglinide is a drug that is used to treat type 2 diabetes. Patients who have type 2 diabetes have difficulty digesting insulin. Their bodies are unable to control the amount of glucose or sugar that is produced in the blood. Repaglinide works by regulating glucose that is found in blood by allowing the pancreas to release insulin.  Using Repaglinide regularly will reduce your chances of developing serious problems of type 2 diabetes. Such problems include stroke, kidney disease and heart attacks.

 

Dosage:

Repaglinide is available in the form of a tablet. It is taken with meals or drinks such as milk. Follow your doctor's prescriptions and ensure you read the instructions at the back of the bottle carefully.  It is prudent to take an extra dose if you add a meal. Also, when you skip a meal, ensure you skip your Repaglinide dose. The doctor might increase your dosage gradually with time.

 

Usage:

This drug is taken through the mouth. While using this drug, avoid drinking orange juice or consuming glucose tablets as they increase your sugar levels. Do not use this medication if you are suffering from type 1 diabetes.

Side Effects:

Some of the common side effects  of Repaglinide are: constipation, diarrhea, headache, back pain, nasal congestion and feeling hungry constantly. Some other serious side effects include: seizures, swelling of the lips, mouth, tongue and face, chest pain, developing rashes, jaundice and unusual bleeding.

 

Precautions:

Prior to taking this drug, inform you doctor if:

You have kidney or liver disease

You are taking gemfibrozil

You are aged below eighteen years

You experience an illness, injury, fever when  using repaglinide

You are pregnant or you intend to be

 

It is important to wear a diabetic ID bracelet always to ensure you access proper treatment in cases of an emergency. Report any cases of an overdose as soon as possible.
