Flouxetine

Flouxetine is a drug is used to treat people with depression, anxiety, panic or obsessive compulsive disorders by affecting the chemicals that are unbalanced in their brains. The drug is used to treat a number of other disorders like Bulimia and Premenstrual dysphoric disorder.

When used with other drugs like Zyprexa, Flouxetine is used to treat manic depression that is brought by bipolar disorder.

Dosage

The usual adult dosage for an adult is 60 mg orally per day. This is used when treating Bulimia Nervosa. When treating depression, an initial dose of 20 mg per day has shown clinical improvement. The dose can be increased to between 20 mg to 80 mg a day if need be.

The dose for obsessive compulsive disorder is an initial 20 mg dose per day. A gradual increase to 60 mg can be used for maintenance if need be with a maximum of 80 mg per day.

Usage

Following the prescribed dose is imperative for success of the drug. Alcoholic drinks should be avoided since they can increase the severity of Flouxetine. The capsule should not be crushed opened or even chewed and should be swallowed whole.

One may experience withdrawal symptoms should you stop using Flouxetine suddenly.

Side effects

Flouxetine, like most other drugs, may have some side effects with continued use. Some of which include;

• Insomnia
• Severe weight loss
• Headaches and dizziness
• Dry mouth
• Stuffy nose
• Decreased sex drive

Some sever effects like severe skin reaction and blurred vision may also come up in some cases. One is advised to seek medical attention immediately.

Precautions

Flouxetine should be stored in a cool dry place away from the reach of children. The drug should not be shared nor used for any other purposes other than the intended treatment. Always inform your doctor of any other medicine that you may be using at moment to avoid bad reactions.
